A reminder to the SolGen regarding legislative prerogative

It will do the solicitor-general good to remember that it is the legislature's prerogative to call an inquiry into various policies and actions of the government, which affect the lives--or in this case, deaths--of our fellow Filipinos. To claim that such possible inquiries were designed to "derail" the administration's efforts would be premature, if not irresponsible.

The alarming number of recent killings may warrant such inquiries to determine whether or not the rules and protocols in police operations were observed by the officers, and to provide recommendations to enhance these protocols through legislation.

The search for truth is boundless and a government that operates on truth has nothing to fear. Calida's remarks are unfortunate if this government truly wants to be transparent and above board.
